You can obtain an endorsement in Traffic Safety during the six-week summer session through Central Washington University. Only four courses are needed.
Courses will be offered simultaneously in Ellensburg and Des Moines at the CWU Des Moines center (enrollment permitting).
Classes begin June 20.
All courses are Monday through Thursday, except special days and times for SED 484 as shown below.

SED 382 Driver Task Analysis (3 credits)
Introduction to the driving task, the highway
transportation system, and a review of the required
concepts and skills necessary for traffic safety
education.
SED 481 Teaching TSE: Classroom & Simulation (3
credits)
Methods, materials and techniques for teaching traffic
safety education in the classroom and driving
simulation. Prerequisite: SED 382 or approval by the
instructor. Laboratory experience teaching peers and
high school beginning drivers will be provided.
SED 482 Teaching TSE: Behind-the-Wheel (5
credits)
This course examines methods, materials and techniques
for teaching novice drivers in a dual-control traffic
safety education vehicle. Emphasis is placed on
laboratory organization, administration and delivery of
the behind-the-wheel lessons. Laboratory experience with
beginning drivers is provided.
SED 484 Organization and Administration of TSE
(3 credits)
This course examines the development and management of a
performance-based traffic safety education program. All
students meet June 26 and 27 in Ellensburg and the class
will continue as a DE class between Ellensburg and Des
Moines. Please refer to the class schedule in SAFARI for
complete dates.
Upon completion of the program, you will be eligible to
teach all phases of Traffic Safety Education, including
classroom, simulation, and behind-the-wheel.
